A Gentle Start

This opening section is here to help you arrive, settle in, and understand how this course works. We’ll share what to expect, how to use the content in a way that supports your learning, and a few reassurances before you begin. There’s no pressure to know everything - just curiosity, care, and a willingness to learn at your own pace.

A gentle start: how to use this course

Module 1 - What LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Really Means

This module explores what inclusion truly means - and what it doesn’t. You’ll look at why inclusion is an ongoing practice, how it supports belonging, and why you don’t need to “know everything” to begin.

Module 2 - Language Without Fear

Language can feel intimidating, especially when it changes over time. This module introduces key LGBTQIA+ terms with reassurance and context, helping you build confidence, repair mistakes, and stay open rather than fearful.

Module 5 - Context: History, Law & Reality

This module provides high-level historical and legal context to explain why trust, safety, and inclusion can feel fragile for LGBTQIA+ people - even in supportive environments. It focuses on understanding impact rather than memorising facts.
